Sportsnet just did their Trade Deadline roundup, and I’ll be the first to admit I am a sucker for it. It’s nice to see what they think, or what rumors are going around the league. However, every year there’s always the “This is what we think will happen, so it will.” It happens in every sport, and the Canucks predictions are no different.
The Sportsnet piece reads “…the Canucks need to sell, and we think saner heads will prevail.” Oh you do eh? So the fact the GM said he won’t ask guys to waive No-Trade Clauses doesn’t matter? Or the fact Jayson Megna is getting top line minutes, while the team’s All-Star is still trying to be forced into a Checking Line role doesn’t matter? Or, how about the fact they dressed 13 Forwards and didn’t play one of them, first time to ever happen in the NHL. Their excuse? He wasn’t healthy. Sounds like very sane heads in the Front Office to me!
This is what national media does in every sport though. They pay attention to the major clubs, and glance at the rest. As a Detroit Lions fan I sat through the Millen years with the idiots at ESPN saying they would go 8-8 after a 2-14 season, then go back to 45 minutes on Payton Manning’s new cleats. It’s what they do.
They spend a majority of time on those clubs then use the excuse “Well we have better ratings on the Leafs so that’s what we spend our time on.” Oh ok, I’ll spend 45 minutes eating Taco Bell, and 15 minutes on the treadmill. Guess I’ll get fat because that’s what the results are showing!
